David E. Williams

David E. Williams is President and co-founder of Health Business Group. He works with CEOs, boards, and investors on growth, innovation, and high-stakes strategic decisions across healthcare and life sciences, and leads senior consulting teams on complex strategy and value creation efforts.

David co-founded Health Business Group in 2003 after more than a decade as a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group and L|E|K Consulting. He is known for combining deep healthcare judgment with data-driven insight, helping clients navigate complexity and translate strategy into execution.

In addition to his advisory work, David serves as CEO of Atumcell, a cybersecurity company working with healthcare and other regulated industries, including private equity firms and portfolio companies. This role brings a hands-on operator’s perspective to his work with clients, particularly around technology, risk, and enterprise decision-making.

David serves on corporate and nonprofit boards and has advised a wide range of healthcare and life sciences companies across growth stages. Current roles include board member of Clerio Vision and advisory board member of Credo Health. He has previously served on the boards of multiple healthcare and health technology companies through acquisition and exit.

He is also an experienced nonprofit leader. David served as President of the Board of Congregation Kehillath Israel, where he led a major strategic transformation that brought together multiple organizations into a unified Jewish campus and raised $25 million to support the initiative. The project was the subject of a Harvard Business School case study.

David is a recognized healthcare thought leader and frequent media contributor, with appearances in outlets including Bloomberg, Investor’s Business Daily, U.S. News & World Report, and The Boston Globe. He is the founder of the Health Business Blog, host of the HealthBiz Podcast and co-host of CareTalk. He has published more than 3,500 posts and interviewed over 200 leaders across healthcare, technology, and public policy.

He has chaired and served on federal review panels for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, including programs under the ARRA/HITECH Act and the Affordable Care Act, evaluating national health IT and interoperability initiatives.

David holds a BA in Economics from Wesleyan University (Phi Beta Kappa) and an MBA from Harvard Business School (First Year Honors).
