Interoperability as Opportunity: Repositioning for Accelerated Growth

Client Type: PE-backed health-data software company

Challenge:
New interoperability rules threatened to erode demand for the client’s core hospital indexing product. Leadership needed to gauge how much risk the regulation posed and to identify growth paths beyond hospitals.

Approach:
HBG partnered with management to assess capabilities, gaps, and the product roadmap. We synthesized secondary market data and conducted 50+ interviews with payers, life-sciences firms, hospital executives, and potential partners to size new opportunities and test value propositions. Collaboration with an investment banker added M&A options for inorganic growth.

Impact:
The project reframed interoperability from threat to strength, positioning the company as an interoperability solutions provider. We quantified downside protection, identified a new adjacent market with synergy to the core business, and established an M&A filter for strategic fit.

Why It Matters:
When regulation changes the rules, strategy can turn vulnerability into advantage. HBG equips health-IT companies to pivot before markets do.

Thumbnail Summary: Facing new interoperability rules, a PE-backed data firm turned to HBG to assess risks, find adjacent growth areas, and reposition as an interoperability solutions provider.
