Vets health care budget woes
Two weeks ago I wrote about the Bush Administration's embarrassing undercommittment to funding the VA medical system for Veterans. At the time I said:
[T]he Senate had to approve an emergency $1.5 billion allocation for VA medical services yesterday. Believe me, that's just the start.
Today, the Wall Street Journal had this to say:
Less than two weeks ago, the administration asked for an extra $975 million for this summer. Now the VA estimates it needs another $300 million prior to Sept. 30 and as much as $1.7 billion -- on top of the president's budget request -- for fiscal 2006.
That took even less time than I thought.Meanwhile, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has a letter in USA Today excorciating Republicans for their lack of support for Veterans' health.
