Intelligent Design, where are you when we need you?

When I was in LA last week I had dinner with a friend who is a prominent biologist. Like other scientists, he's upset by the attacks on evolution by the religious right. On the other hand, he pointed out that if evolution isn't real then we don't need to worry about bird flu mutating.
