Quantity and quality
Quantity and qualityMassachusetts has started posting data on the number of surgeries of different types performed by individual physicians. The idea is that surgeons who do more procedures have better results. In some cases that assumption is backed up by empirical data, and in other cases it's not.Needless to say, number of surgeries performed is an incomplete measure. It's a start however, and leads to a hunger for more and better data. That's a good thing. The data is posted here in Excel and PDF formats, along with an explanation of how to interpret it.
