Brigham and Women’s to put up a new hospital —but not quite yet!

Brigham and Women’s Hospital announced a new inpatient tower, but details are vague and it’s not expected to open until the 2030s. Why announce now? David Williams explains in the Boston Business Journal (Brigham and Women’s to replace aging inpatient building, but cost, timeline unclear)

“I think that they're announcing it partly to show that they are staying in the game, being competitive and reinvesting,” Williams said.

In the 2030s could mean up to 15 years in the future. But Williams said it seems the Brigham wants to be competitive now, while the significant construction projects at MGH, Dana-Farber and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center are in progress or about to begin.

“It has to be seen in that context," Williams said.
